CANDY SHOP

This morning as I was doing my usuals, I had a trip down memory lane...

So, listening to Maina and King'ang'i in the morning, he played a throwback track and it took me back to the 2000's. The good old days.

I've loved music ever since I could remember, and musicians back then were pure artists. The likes of Shaggy, and 50 Cent.. (sorry Gen Z this one is not for you).

I remembered Candy Shop by 50 Cent ft Olivia. I remember 10-year-old me listening to the song and picturing myself in this shop full of candies (mathuiti na makeki), and a bunch of lollipops.

Daaaamn!

In my silly, innocent mind I was in a literal mental candy shop, salivating, spoilt for choice and 50 would let me lick all the lollipops, Olivia on the other hand gave a taste of what she had. Mamma Mia!

This was Christmas every day.

I was a pig in sh*t. Swimming, in this pool of candy, chocolates, ice creams, and muffins.

See that was art!

Back then we didn't have the luxury of TV video, so we relied on an old single cassette radio for our entertainment and Kiss 100.

Aaaah! Nostalgia.

So, we'd listen to the same song with an adult and we'd both get different messages from it. As a kid, the message flew right above my head, and still enjoyed the song. That's art.

Musicians had to ensure their songs were radio "friendly".

Looking back, sometimes I miss that kid.
